Plant History

The blue lotus flower was used by the ancient Egyptians as part of celebrations including in the form of blue lotus wine. The flower was considered the official flower of the sun god Ra, a gift from the god himself. Blue Lotus Flowers have significant importance in various cultural aspects of ancient Egyptians.

Blue Lotus was the first plant to be used as a party plant. This plant can be still found in the walls of ancient tombs, so researchers are believing that the effects of Blue Lotus were also used for religious purposes.

Origin: Egypt, India & Southeast Asia
Growth: in warm weather conditions, exposure to natural light and often grown near or in ponds. 
Plant Family: Nymphaea
Scent: Bitter
Colour: Purple, yellow
Harvesting: can be grown ethically on sustainable farms, however usually in nature they bloom for 3 days in the summer months. 
Endangered: Not extinct, not endangered.

The alkaloids apomorphine and nuciferine in the plant help release dopamine and serotonin to influence your mood. The Apomorphine has a powerful action on the central nervous system and in multiple parts of the brain, but not on the vagus nerve, due to how to stimulate various neurotransmitter receptors.

Blue lotus can help with sleep due to the compounds like nuciferine and aporphine. Can be used to help feminines with menstruation cycles easing pains that can occur from cramps.
